WHO IS "US"
"United Safeworld Accord for
Peace on Earth"was created in response to the
attack on September 11th in 2001. "Our grief is not a cry
for war" was the theme of the huge demonstration in Washington
DC soon after the attack. Many of us who were there felt that
for the first time in history, perhaps there would be a different
reaction rather than more violence and escalating tensions that
we knew would just drive the hatred deeper and bring more violence.
M.L.King said it so clearly when he preached that violence will
only beget more violence until someone breaks the chain.
Already there was plenty of animosity
in the world against the subtle agression of our Empirical World
Marketing. "War is not the answer! " we all chanted.
Then "ANSWER" became an acronym for Act Now to Stop
War and End Racism. This and many other organizations promoting
nonviolence have carried us through the year and a half since
the chase for terrorist leaders has become war on many fronts.
And a new paradigm is taking shape with new leadership and deeper
criticism of our government's leadership and its policies and
demands.
We have watched the paradigm shifting
as world/global public opinion has taken on the power of the
people. The United States Government chose to be tougher than
tough. Flags and signs that said "God Bless USA" cropped
up everywhere. How can we see this more inclusive and more positive?
And "USAccord for Peace on Earth" was born. It seemed
to be a way we could transform the exclusiveness and arrogance
into a movement that "God" could bless.
So mostly, "us" are visionaries
who hold to the belief that Peace works and it is an idea whose
time has come. We believe that it is now time to put to practice
all of the skills and resolution of conflict formulas that we
teach, encourage, and advocate for our children. Working in the
field of cultural change most of our lives, and being agents
of change itself can be pretty exciting and fulfilling - carrying
out our purpose. It is truly like being on a mission - carrying
out a very high purpose for your life. You never know what your
next assignment will be. It may be just now about to ring on
your telephone.
