Decription: Founded in 1999, The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy is an international, not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation with headquarters in the United States and Germany. The ICD is at the centre of a global network of independent partners in both the public and private sectors, whose collective mission is to enhance the process of international and interregional human interaction by improving the very fabric of social relations. The ICD?s research and programs in the area of cultural communication and rapprochement offer viable alternatives to enhance traditional diplomatic policy. This can benefit individuals, communities, and organizations at the local, national, regional, and global level. Activities: The ICD\'s activity is divided into two main areas: running programs and conducting research. To further promote the field of cultural
diplomacy the ICD organizes programs and initiatives that aim
to develop the participants\' awareness and understanding of
the practice of cultural diplomacy. The aim of the ICD\'s As relatively little research has been conducted in the field of cultural diplomacy, the ICD actively encourages and supports cultural diplomacy as an academic discipline and as a more widely accepted tool in the practice of foreign policy. Development of the field is important because it allows us to better optimise the programs and initiatives currently in existence, and allows us to make predictions for the future. The final element of the ICD\'s work in developing cultural diplomacy is to consider new bridges and opportunities for the field that have not previously been explored. We feel it is important as an institution to explore new opportunities and to push the boundaries of what we understand as cultural diplomacy. As well as promoting cultural diplomacy through its own initiatives, the ICD also promotes cultural diplomacy by actively supporting the work that is already being done in this area by communicating with, partnering, and publishing material by other actors in the field.
